The KINGkong Boost 110mm front hub and Kong Boost 148mm rear hub differ fundamentally in some respects from the 100mm and 135/142mm widths. When X-12 rear ends were introduced, only the installation width was increased, but the geometry of the hubs (flange spacing and support points of the ball bearings) remained unaffected. The Boost Standard, on the other hand, allows a complete adaptation of the hubs with wider hub bodies and axles. A conversion of existing hubs to the Boost Standard is therefore unfortunately not possible. Nevertheless, the new standard offers some advantages:
The flange distance increases for both hubs. This makes it possible to build significantly stiffer wheels, which has a noticeable effect especially on 29s. One criticism of larger wheels was always the lack of stiffness. Due to the larger installation width of the Boost standard, 29er wheels can now be built that are just as stiff as 26 inch wheels!
The bearing support can be made wider and thus stiffer and more stable.
Of course the topic of weight played a big role in our implementation, so we managed to limit the weight of the King Boost & Kong Boost to 121g & 214 g!
