A first-class all-rounder that also likes to prove itself in competition. It is suitable as a versatile competition and touring tyre with secure cornering grip and riding comfort. The perfect grip and its quiet rolling behaviour is available with various technologies.
The Cross King stands out as a smooth-running tyre that adapts to any surface with its special tread and is manufactured in Germany.
The crucial question in cycling. The running properties of a tyre's rubber compound are largely determined by three interacting factors - static friction [grip], rolling resistance and mileage. The dilemma: If you improve one of these factors, at least one of the others deteriorates in return. A tyre with maximum grip wears more quickly and rolls more slowly. If you make the tyre faster or more durable, its grip decreases.
With the BlackChili Compound, a tread compound that is always based on the latest findings in polymer and raw material research, Continental has provided the cycling scene with a lasting answer. Depending on the area of use of a tyre, the compound recipe is specifically adjusted - whether for the road bike or mountain bike, for time trial or downhill. For BlackChili, Continental refines special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create particularly high-performance tread compounds. Carbon black particles are then added to these compounds, which in turn are optimised in terms of shape and surface properties. The complex compounding technology is so sensitive that tyres with BlackChili Compound are produced exclusively in Korbach.
ProTection technology gives tyres the perfect blend of smooth running, grip and puncture protection. This is made possible by an additional puncture protection layer running all around, which makes the entire tyre particularly resistant and insensitive to injuries. Despite the additional ply, the tyre has very good cushioning properties and bounces cleanly over the toughest trails. BlackChili provides the necessary smooth running and grip. Another feature of the ProTection technology from Germany is the Tubeless Ready capability. The revolutionary Tubeless Ready foot makes mounting the tyre easy and uncomplicated. For optimum sealing and use results, Continental recommends the use of the new Continental RevoSealant sealant.
Tubeless Ready tyres can be used with or without an inner tube because the tyre and rim are designed to seal directly together. Compared to UST tyres, however, Tubeless Ready tyres have a much lighter construction and are therefore air-permeable in the sidewall. This is sealed with the help of special sealing milk. All mountain bike tyres from Continental in the ProTection and Performance versions are Tubeless Ready. The revolutionary Tubeless Ready foot makes mounting the tyre easy and uncomplicated. For optimal results in sealing and in use, we recommend the use of the new Continental RevoSealant sealant .
When mounted correctly, the system is relatively airtight and less sensitive to snake bites than folding or clincher tyres. Voluminous mountain bike tyres in particular benefit from this design. Tubeless Ready tyres can be ridden with lower operating pressure. The risk of punctures is much lower because there is no inner tube to be punctured. The "wandering" of the tyre on the rim also remains without consequences. In addition, grip, comfort and rolling resistance improve off-road.
